Recently appointed Amersham Town boss James Hall has set personal targets to take the club up the divisions in the coming years but admits that it has been a frustrating start to his tenure due to COVID-19, and not being able to get the players on the pitch.
The Magpies sat third from bottom in the Spartans South Midlands league table when James took charge, but he has been impressed with the group of players he has.
Speaking to AmershamNews, James told us how little time he’s had with the squad as a result of the lockdown, but still keeps in regular contact with each player.
He said: “It’s obviously been quite frustrating with the lockdown as we’ve only had three training sessions and a couple of games since I took charge and we’ve not been able to do anything since.
“I’m in regular contact with the players individually and as a team to set fitness tasks, and we’re trying to keep them sane when there’s no football!”
With the future of this season in doubt, James is optimistic that whatever the outcome is, that the club will be able to do well under the circumstances.
He added “If the league is cancelled this season then it gives us a chance to have an extended pre-season which will give me more time to implement my style and philosophy, but if they say we can carry on for the rest of the season then that’s fine too.
“There’ll be an overload of football if that happens, but our squad is big enough to be able to cope with those demands.”
