A Sixth Form student who attends St Helen’s School in Northwood has reflected on her incredible beach volleyball career so far.
Alice’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Representing Team GB on the international stage, she has competed at prestigious tournaments including the U18 and U20 CEV European Championships, the UK Beach Tour Finals, and most notably the 7th Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago in August 2023.
After finishing second in their group, they progressed to the next stage, where they secured a hard-fought victory against the Cayman Islands. In the quarter-finals, they met Kenya in an intense and closely contested match. Though Kenya ultimately won, Alice describes the experience of representing England on the international stage as an unforgettable moment in her sporting career.
She said: “The experience we had was amazing. I met loads of new people from all over the world and have built bonds from our shared experiences at the tournament.”
Alice continued her impressive run of form by representing England at the U18 Northern European Volleyball Zonal Association tournament. She and her teammate triumphed, taking home the championship trophy after an exhilarating final against Norway.
She then competed in both the U18 and U20 Confédération Européenne de Volleyball European Championships, securing England’s best results in years by finishing 13th at U18 and 17th at U20.
Most recently, Alice showcased her talent at the UK Beach Tour Senior Finals. She achieved a remarkable 3rd place finish, an outstanding accomplishment in a highly competitive field.
Alice added: “The school has always supported me in pursuing my passion for beach volleyball. Teachers have been understanding of the commitments that come with being an athlete and have offered their support whenever I needed it.”
