WITH LOVE: Quilts displayed in St Albans given to those in need to remind them ‘they are not alone’

A display of 76 colourful handmade quilts were displayed in St Albans Cathedral before they were sent to worthy recipients this winter.

The quilts were painstakingly made by a collective of women who are part of Mead Quilters, Rotary Club of Hertswood, Bricket Wood Women’s Institute, Watford & District U3A, and Goods for Good over the course of the year.

This is the fifth annual quilt exhibition and this year the project supported two important causes.

A total of 35 quilts will be donated to Specialist Domestic Abuse Services and will provide much-needed comfort to women and children at the refuge.

The remaining 41 quilts will be gifted to homeless young people aged 16 to 18 who reside in seven hostels across Hertfordshire.

Speaking to St Albans News, Ginny Edwards, who spearheaded the project, said: “The people who come into a refuge or care, often come with nothing. So it’s nice knowing that someone has taken the time to make something just for you.

“Each quilt is a symbol of hope and kindness, reminding recipients that they are not alone.”
