A young cricketer from Merchant Taylors’ School in Northwood has had a momentous few weeks, after signing his first professional contract and getting a call-up to the England U19 team.
Aaryan Sawant, now 18, played for Eastcote Cricket Club (ECC) from the U10s to the 1st XI.
The club were delighted to announce last month that their former player has been called up to play for the England U19s side in a Young Lions squad early next year.
In a post on their Facebook page, the cricket club said: “Swanty will be heading up to England’s centre of excellence at Loughborough University for some training next month before getting on the plane to Cape Town for three weeks to represent the England U19 side.
“Everyone at ECC is immensely proud of Swanty and no one deserves this opportunity more after everything he has been through and the hard work he has put in.
“Aaryan is another fantastic example of the great pathway we have created for cricketers here with our excellent coaches and support network.”
The young athlete is also celebrating his first professional contract with Middlesex County Cricket Club (MCCC) after making his 2nd XI debut in 2021, aged just 15.
Alan Coleman, managing director of cricket at MCCC, said: “Aaryan is an exceptionally talented young batter who has a huge future in the game, and he’s already proved that he’s got what’s required to make the step up to the next level.
“He is a batter that’s got all the attributes to succeed in the game, with a brilliant work ethic, natural talent, sublime timing, and destructive power when it’s needed.
“We can’t wait to see how Aaryan progresses over the next couple of years and wish him every success as he makes his first steps as a young professional cricketer.”
