Who is your community stalwart?

Published on: 15th January 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

The search is on for this year’s outstanding community stalwarts who should receive their moment of recognition at the Civic Awards.

The Mayor of Hertsmere, councillor Charles Goldstein, wants to hear about individuals or groups living or working in Bushey, Radlett and the surrounding area who give up their time to improve the lives and circumstances of others. Their names will be considered by a panel and the winners announced at the Mayor of Hertsmere’s Civic Dinner on Saturday, March 24 at Elstree Studios. Nominations will need to be submitted to the Mayor’s secretary by Friday, February 2.

As well as the Civic Awards, nominations are also invited for the Dave Rankin Award, which recognises individuals or groups involved in improving community safety, and Youth Civic Award, which recognises the contribution made by residents aged 18 or under.

Cllr Goldstein said: “This is a chance to recognise anybody who has made a real contribution to their community. They may have run a local sports club for young people in their spare time, organised a community event which brought people together or they may make a difference by caring for someone elderly or vulnerable.

“Whatever the reasons you feel someone should be nominated, I want to hear from you. This is a chance to finally say thanks to the people in our borough who go about their work with very little or no recognition but who we could not do without.”

People nominated should have contributed to activities or initiatives which have shown a benefit to the local area and directly involved other community members or colleagues. Nominees should have worked in a voluntary capacity or carried out work which is considered over and above their normal paid employment duties.

Please contact the Mayor’s Secretary, Hertsmere Borough Council, Civic Offices, Elstree Way, Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, WD6 1WA on 020 8207 7477 or email mayors.secretary@hertsmere.gov.uk for more information and a nomination form.
