Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) has welcomed proposals for new provisions at a Hemel Hempstead primary school, with an opening set for September this year.
Last month, HCC revealed that it had successfully developed a suite of specialist resource provisions (SRP) across the county, providing additional support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to access a mainstream curriculum.
On Wednesday, January 15, HCC councillors were presented with findings from the initial consultation. They decided to authorise the opening of SRPs at Brockswood Primary and Nursery School in Hemel and Featherstone Wood Primary School in Stevenage.
This will open 12 new places for students, in addition to the nine SRPs across Hertfordshire that are already open.
Councillor Caroline Clapper, HCC’s executive member for education, said: “We’re committed to providing the right education in the right place at the right time, and we know there is a need to create more provision in Hertfordshire so that our children and young people with SEND can attend the most appropriate education setting, and achieve the best possible outcomes, as close to their home and community as possible.”
