New Watford Head Coach Slavisa Jokanovic was understandably delighted with three points on Saturday after a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in his first game in charge.
First-half goals from Odion Ighalo and Almen Abdi gave the visitors a two-goal cushion at the break and then Matej Vydra’s clinical finish wrapped up the win after the Owls started the second half brightly. “We had a problem for the first 15 minutes and then the last 15 minutes but we caught control of the game when we had to” explained Jokanovic. “I’m happy for my team. We make one important step today, but the schedule is long. “This is a perfect first day for me in the Championship but this league is so long, there are so many games and we will play much better and worse than this as well. “I repeat we have to be happy with this one match but it is just one match. We have many minutes in control and this is good and we must try for this.” Jokanovic certainly wasn’t getting carried away but was looking for his team to now find their own way of playing. “It is important for us to find our way and we had our first step today” he added. “I have to be happy for the start. We played a similar game against Blackburn and we know what happened. I reminded my team about their concentration at the start of the second half.”
