Independent senior school, St Albans School, is celebrating its Year 11 cohort today (Thursday, August 21), as many arrived to collect their GCSE results.

The school revealed that 61 per cent of all results achieved were the highest grades 8-9, whilst an impressive 80 per cent of all results were graded 7-9.

They said: “The number of students at St Albans School that have achieved at least one grade 9 across all of their subjects demonstrates incredible aptitude amongst this year’s cohort. More than half the students gained at least six grades between 9-8.”

An impressive 27 students (18 per cent of this year’s cohort) achieved at least 10 grade 9s and 8s, while 27 per cent of the cohort secured at least nine grade 9s and 8s. A further 36 per cent of the cohort achieved at least eight grade 9s and 8s.

Two pupils achieved 12 grade 8s and 9s across all of their subjects, and eight pupils achieved 11 grade 8s and 9s across all subjects.

The top performing subject this year was Maths, for which an impressive 86 per cent of the cohort achieved a grade 8 or 9.

Joe Silvester, headmaster at St Albans School, said: “Our students really deserve every bit of their incredible success today.

“Many have achieved top grades and should be immensely proud of themselves. They have studied hard and have put every ounce of focus and determination in to achieving the very best version of themselves, and that is to be celebrated.

“Likewise, from a country-wide perspective, despite having thought to be amongst the worst affected by the COVID pandemic, our Year 11 students have really proven great resilience and determination and bounced back with their GCSE results this year. Well done to all”.
