Bushey United Synagogue hosted its annual Yom HaShoah commemorative event on April 17.
A total of 250 people packed into Bushey Synagogue to listen to Holocaust survivor Janine Webber BEM tell her heart-wrenching story.
In addition, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Robert Voss CBE spoke of his family’s experiences in the Holocaust.
Also present was the Home Secretary, the Rt Hon Suella Braverman KC MP, who spoke of the government’s commitment to fighting antisemitism and supporting the Holocaust memorial to be built in Westminster.
Michael Bibring, of the Bushey Synagogue Yom HaShoah committee, said: “It was extraordinary to hear Janine Webber’s story – there was not a sound in the room as she explained her horrific start to her amazing life.”
Rabbi Elchonon Feldman, Senior Rabbi of Bushey United Synagogue, said: “Our community is incredibly supportive of Holocaust education. This evening’s event had literally everything: a packed synagogue listening to two testimonies, and some incredibly encouraging words from a Holocaust Educational Trust young ambassador and one of our own members, who had recently visited the camps. We must never forget.”
