MOPED MAYHEM: Two arrested in operation targeting delivery riders in Watford

Police have confirmed that two people have been arrested and two mopeds seized during a proactive operation targeting nuisance delivery takeaway riders in Watford.

Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) carried out the enforcement in response to numerous public complaints about fast-food delivery bikes.

Reports claimed the bikes were being ridden in an anti-social and illegal manner such as contravening one-way signs, as well as parking and riding on pavements.

The team stationed themselves outside McDonald’s on the High Street and were joined by colleagues from Immigration Enforcement for the town centre operation led by PC Lewis Hailey on  the evening of Friday, August 15.

Sergeant Brad Cross, from the Watford Central NPT, said: “We arranged this operation following feedback from the public, who told us they had concerns that there was going to be a collision involving one or more of these bikes.

“Throughout the evening, we received positive feedback from both those working in McDonald’s as well as passing members of the public, who were interested in what we were doing.

“Our work yielded several productive results including two immigration-related arrests, two moped seizures and several parking tickets handed out.

“We also carried out approximately 100 vehicle and person checks, and we’re looking to plan another operation soon.”
