Two girls from Watford attended the European Kickboxing Championships for Tatami Sports and the World Kickboxing Championships for ring sports competing in K1 style and Muay Thai respectively earlier this month.
Ellie Harber, 12, and Emilia Azarova, 10, who train out of Lions Watford represented England at the ISKA (International Sports Kickboxing Association) in Kiev, Ukraine, challenging themselves against participants from all over the world including USA, China, Kazakhstan, Panama to name a few. The English team consisted of nine participants in total.
Competing first in the European Matt sports, K1 style, both Ellie and Emilia qualified for the Semi Finals on the penultimate day of the event, both competing against Ukrainian opponents and receiving Bronze medals.
The final day of the World Championships saw both girls from Watford qualify for the finals of the ISKA Ring Sports World Championships. Again, they would both meet Ukrainians in their final bouts. Emilia fought to a very close decision taking the Silver Medal in her first international competition. Ellie Harber dominated her opponent for two of the three rounds and was crowned ISKA World Muay Thai Champion at her first World Championships.
Lions Watford Coach, Colin Lewis said “We are so proud of Ellie and Emilia and the whole England Team, showing that hard work and dedication really does pay off and we are excited to see what the future holds for everybody.”
