A walking group aiming to encourage people to get active in Canons Park has come to the end of its first set of courses, which was funded by the Transport for London Foundation.
In February, Stanmorenews reported that WALX with Harrow Striders had won a grant to put on four six-week courses combining the basics of Nordic Walking with balance and strength training. Leader Sue Collen also hoped that participants – many of whom stopped exercising during the COVID-19 pandemic and never restarted – would slowly build confidence and form a new local community inspired by the outdoors.
Six months later, Sue said that the courses received a “greater response than [organisers] could have hoped for”, with more than 50 people registering for the course and 48 regular attendees.
Following a Coffee and Croissant Walk held at the new Liam’s Café in the Park on Sunday, July 28, to celebrate the programme’s completion, participants had the chance to offer some feedback.
