A group of darts enthusiasts from Chorleywood have raised more than £1,000 for a cancer charity with a 12-hour darts marathon.
The Macmillan Darts Marathon involves a solo darts player or team playing a game of darts for either 12 hours, or until 100,000 points have been reached. All the money raised from the marathon goes towards Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Chorleywood Reckeds team, consisting of Steve Kite, Hayden Dodd, Jake Selvaraja, Andy Stephens, Andy Shields and Nigel Corkhill, took part in the darts marathon at Chorleywood Club on Saturday, February 1.
Speaking to CHORLEYWOODnews, Andy Shields said: “The team wanted to do it because we’ve all been touched by cancer, either personally or know someone who has been through it.
“We reached 100,000 points in three hours, so decided to play the full 12 hours instead.”
Andy explained that the group set up a system where pubgoers would pay £1 to challenge someone from the Chorleywood Reckeds team. The group played from 11am until midnight.
He continued: “The original target was £150 but we smashed it in two days. We doubled it and achieved that as well, and now we’ve raised more than £1,300.
“It’s so humbling and amazing to see how generous people are. We are all very grateful as it is going to an amazing cause!”
The event was so successful that Chorleywood Club has suggested the group take on an even bigger venture in the summer, with more darts, entertainment, a BBQ and a tombola to raise more money for the charity.
