FIRST PLACE: Pinner optician wins prestigious award

A woman from Pinner has been named British Dispensing Optician of the year in the Optician Awards 2020.

Jane Cohen, who works at G&G Optometrists on Bridge Street, has worked as an optician in Pinner for more than 30 years. She was awarded the title by Optician magazine at a virtual ceremony in December.

Jane told PinnerNews: “I was chuffed to pieces when I heard that I had won the award as were my colleagues at G&G.  I’ve always tried to treat every single person who sits in front of me as an individual with their own individual visual needs and as I’m a bit of a perfectionist, make them up something that exactly fits their needs.

“The judges were a panel of peers and industry colleagues. I was lucky enough to have been sent many testimonials from work colleagues and patients and patients’ families. What they said made me both proud and blush at the same time!”

Jane qualified as an optician in 1978 and worked for 25 years with Audrey Michaels in house practice until her passing in 2013. Since then she has worked at G&G Optometrists in the town. Alongside this she also worked for 12 years in the Western Eye Hospital in Marylebone and Saint Mary’s Hospital in paediatrics, special needs babies, children and young adults.
