Pupils from Garston have experienced the thrill of seeing their work in print after writing poems which are now on display at local train stations.
Year 4 pupils from Kingsway Junior School in Garston and Mandeville Primary School in St Albans wrote their very own haikus as part of the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership’s (CRP) new project.
The poems reflect the everyday wonder of travel, seen through the eyes of eight and nine year olds.
Oscar, nine, whose poem is among those now on display, told Garston News: “It’s very exciting to see it at the station. I enjoyed writing the poem very much.”
The project was brought to life by Kate Swindells, Abbey Line CRP officer, in collaboration with creative writer Karene Horner-Hughes, and Chris Blanch and Grae Wall from the St Albans Arts Team.
To celebrate both ends of the Abbey Line, poems by Mandeville Primary School are featured at Watford Junction, while Kingsway Junior School’s pieces are showcased at St Albans Abbey.
