Shoppers in the Hertsmere area are being urged to remain vigilant following several purse thefts in the area.
Police recently received four reports in the space of 10 days. They are now sharing advice to help people keep their belongings more secure.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Matt Cann said: “Sadly, many of the reports involve elderly or vulnerable victims who had visited banks or cash machines prior to the thefts taking place.
“We’re increasing our patrols to deter opportunist thieves and are also urging people not to make themselves an easy target.
“Wherever possible, try to avoid carrying cash unless absolutely necessary.
“If you do need to withdraw cash, only carry small amounts and be aware of anyone acting suspiciously around you.
“Keep purses at the bottom of bags and trolleys, ensure they are kept fully zipped up and never leave them unattended.
“Please share this advice with elderly relatives, friends and neighbours, to help spread the word.”
