VEHICLES STOLEN: Police issue appeal after four cars stolen from driveways in Bushey overnight

Published on: 23rd September 2022   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Police are appealing for witnesses and asking motorists to review their security after four vehicles were stolen from driveways in Bushey overnight (Thursday, September 22, into Friday, September 23).

A black Mercedes and a BMW were stolen from outside two separate properties in Coldharbour Lane, a BMW was taken from a driveway in Merry Hill Road and a blue BMW was stolen from outside a home in Wren Crescent.

Hertsmere Inspector Rachael Robertson said: “Across the county we are seeing an increase in vehicle thefts.

“Here in Hertsmere, we are seeing a pattern of high value keyless cars being targeted and as a result are asking motorists of keyless vehicles to follow some simple crime prevention advice to protect their cars.

“These thieves use signal jacking devices, which pick up the car’s fob key signal from inside the home, so that they can unlock and start the car. Using a signal blocking fob pouch (such as a Faraday Bag) or storing your fob in a metal box will help prevent the signal from being detected. You can also turn off wireless signals from your fob when it is not being used.

“A steering wheel lock is an additional deterrent you can use and if you buy a second-hand keyless car please make sure you reprogramme your keys.

“I know that details of these vehicle thefts will be concerning to local residents but if you follow this crime prevention advice you are greatly reducing your risk of being targeted by vehicle thieves.

“We are also doing our bit, increasing night-time patrols and carrying out specific operations to identify these offenders and arrest them.

“You’ll also see local officers out and about, knocking on doors and talking to owners of high-risk vehicles about the actions they can take to protect themselves.”
