UPDATE: Hemel man is in ‘critical but stable’ condition in Mexico

A man from Hemel Hempstead who suffered a heart attack in Mexico last week has been described as being in a “critical but stable” condition.

Trevor Dealey, who lives in Hemel Hempstead and was born in Kings Langley, was hospitalised in Mexico on May 11 after going into cardiac arrest. Since then, Trevor has developed an infection and is now dependent on a ventilator.

According to the latest update, Trevor is in the General State Hospital in Cancun where he is in a “critical but stable” condition and doctors are going to begin reducing the ventilator as his body is “doing some of the work.”

Writing on Facebook, Trevor’s partner Sarah said: “It is now our mission to get Trevor on a medical flight home, where he can receive the proper treatment and care that he needs. We just need your support in helping us to achieve this by donating whatever you can and sharing our posts. Your support so far has been amazing and we can not thank each and every one of you enough but we just need to keep going.”

According to a GoFundMe page launched by Trevor’s daughter, Megan, the family has been hit with medical bills totaling more than $100,000. Worse, Megan says that Trevor’s travel insurance company is refusing to pay out.

Since launching 24 hours ago, Megan’s fundraiser has accrued more than £18,000 in donations. However, Megan says that there is “no way” that the family will be able to pay for Trevor’s treatment in Mexico without huge financial help.

Writing on the GoFundMe page, Megan added: “Me and my brother have took an emergency flight out to be with [Trevor’s] partner to support her during this difficult time. Everything is up in the air at the moment with flights, hotels etc… we just want him healthy and home.”
