‘UNSUITABLE DEVELOPMENT’: Second exhibition to be held over proposal for 70 new homes near Bedmond

A second exhibition is set to be held regarding plans for 70 new homes on land south of Bedmond.

In the January edition of Abbots News, we reported that an exhibition had been held by housing promoter Montare as part of a potential plan for 70 homes between the M25 and Bedmond. The site has not been allocated for development in any Local Plan.

A second exhibition has now been arranged at Bedmond Village Hall on Thursday, February 27, between 6pm and 8.30pm.

In a letter sent to residents ahead of the Abbots Langley and Bedmond ward by-election on Wednesday, March 19, Green Party candidate Jane Powell said: “I know many of you value the rural character of our villages and worry about the impact this development could have.

“I share your concerns and strongly believe that any new housing plans must be properly scrutinised to ensure they genuinely benefit our community while protecting the environment.”

The Green Party has also listed road safety and access as concerns with the plan. With one proposed entrance via Bedmond Road, the party has said it is concerned about increased congestion and risks to pedestrians and cyclists. The party also say local services, including schools and GP surgeries, are overstretched even without the new homes.

Jane added: “This is yet another opportunistic attempt to push through an unsuitable development that puts profit before the community’s wellbeing. We need properly planned housing in the right places, not speculative projects that ignore local needs and infrastructure capacity.”

Montare has been contacted for comment.
