After all the trials and tribulations that come with two seasons hit by a global pandemic and the various lockdowns and safety measures that followed, the Garston Ladies Vintage Purples team have more than made up for the missing time by becoming league champions.
At the time of writing, the team have managed an unbeaten season so far, earning fourteen wins and three draws with one match to go, as well as 68 goals along the way.
The side managed to earn their status as winners of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Womens Football League Division 1 with still three games to spare.
The Purples never let their mentality drop all season and can now reap the rewards of their tough season to earn promotion to the Premier League.
The ladies also had an exciting run all the way to the league cup semi-finals, before eventually losing to competition from a league above.
Chairman of Garston Ladies, Alan Silver, said: “Massive congratulations to Colin, Mark and the players on securing the Division One title. Everyone at the club is immensely proud of them!”
The side consists of players as young as 20 all the way up to those aged 51, with an average of 33, hence the ‘Vintage’ name. For those interested in joining this successful squad, contact the club via their Twitter and Instagram, which can both be accessed at @GLFCVintage.
