Students from Stanmore have embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Douai, Harrow’s Twin Town in Northern France, for work experience and enrichment activities.
Stanmore College students from Business, Creative Arts and Media, Sport, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths have participated in work experience as part of the college’s mission “to ensure that all learners will develop the skills and knowledge they need to achieve qualifications and progress into higher-level courses or employment”.
On May 23, Councillor John Hinckley and College Governor Jean Lammiman gave a presentation to students, parents, and staff that included important information about Douai. A light-hearted French language lesson concluded the session.
Both Councillor John Hinckley and Governor Jean Lammiman are incredibly informed about French culture, tradition, and politics, and they generously gave up their time to impart some of this knowledge with the students prior to their visit.
The first set of students went on May 30, accompanied by staff, and returned on June 6. Students and staff were met at City Hall by Frédéric Chéreau, Mayor of Douai, and members of the International Relations Committee upon their arrival.
A spokesperson for the college said: “We hope this opportunity will expand the students’ cultural knowledge and give them first-hand insight into different environments, heritage, and work practices. To our leaners and accompanying staff, Bon voyage et au revoir pour l’instant [safe travels and goodbye for now.]”
