A person has died after being hit by a train near Watford Junction, the British Transport Police have confirmed.
Southern Rail and National Rail announced that someone had been hit by a train just after midday on Wednesday December 7, and that services were likely to be affected until 4pm. Lines in both directions were blocked at Watford railway stations, with commuters leaving London facing severe delays.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Watford Junction station at 12.39pm on December 7 following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Southern Rail posted on their Twitter: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Clapham Junction and Watford Junction. All lines are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident.”
