‘TRAFFIC CHAOS’: Councillors issue warning over plans for new cycle lane in Abbots Langley

Two Abbots Langley councillors have warned that a new cycle lane “would cause traffic chaos”.

Three Rivers District Council’s (TRDC) Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) includes a cycle lane along Old Mill Road, Lauderdale Road, and Gallows Hill towards Kings Langley station.

According to councillors Ian Campbell and Vicky Edwards, the plans could see a reduction in the width of Gallows Hill to allow for a cycle track.

The route forms part of a longer Watford route (W17) which proposes a cycle lane from South West Herts College to the Hunton Bridge Roundabout.

Cllr Campbell said: “It is obvious that a cycle lane on Gallows Hill through the railway bridges would cause traffic chaos.”

Councillor Sarah Nelmes, TRDC’s lead member for general public services, said: “Following extensive consultation, the Three Rivers LCWIP has been devised to create safe, attractive and suitable routes. The routes are subject to further design work and review and will be subject to further consultation.

“The W17 route was part of each stage of consultation and has not been formally objected to. W17 has been proposed to connect Three Rivers with the routes in Watford’s and Dacorum’s plans.”
