An independent school in Gerrards Cross is celebrating its 100th anniversary by looking ahead to the future, becoming the first of its kind in the country to introduce lessons in robotics.
Thorpe House School has teamed up with coding company Ninja Code Academy to teach its pupils in new cutting-edge subjects. Aside from robotics, there are also lessons in data science, artificial intelligence and the internet of things.
By educating students in mobile app design, business and finance at an early age, the school is hoping that it will encourage an entrepreneurial spirit. The UK government itself encourages schools to be teaching an hour of coding a week.
Mr Sean Day, interim head of Thorpe House, said: “Our newly created ‘Centre of Excellence’, along with our hands-on approach to engineering and electronic hardware and software design, will help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills that are essential for success in the modern workforce.”
Navin Varsani, founder and CEO of Ninja Code Academy, said: “Thorpe House School has an incredible future ahead of it. As it enters its second century, it will continue to thrive as a leader in education and a source of pride for the community.
“Together, we are building a modern go-to place for the next generation of entrepreneurs. Here’s to another 100 years of excellence!”
