Financier and philanthropist Lord Jacob Rothschild, 4th Baron Rothschild, sadly passed away on February 26.
The Rothschild Family, which during the 19th century possessed the largest private fortune in the world, has long had ties to Tring.
The family said in a statement following his death: “Our father Jacob was a towering presence in many people’s lives, a superbly accomplished financier, a champion of the arts and culture, a devoted public servant, a passionate supporter of charitable causes in Israel and Jewish culture, a keen environmentalist and much-loved friend, father and grandfather.”
The family have had strong links with Tring Park Cricket Club since they purchased Tring Park in 1872. Two years later they made the current main ground available for the club to use and in 1947 it was gifted to the club.
A spokesperson for the club said: “It is with much sadness that the club has learnt of the death of its long-standing patron, Lord Jacob Rothschild. The club sends its condolences to the Rothschild family.”
