‘NO PLACE’: Watford FC fan who used offensive language banned for three years

Published on: 13th April 2024   |   By: Panayiota Demosthenous   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Watford FC supporter has received a three-year ban after being reported for using offensive chants and language.

The Hornets fan was reported by the stewarding team and several supporters after making racist, homophobic and sexist remarks during a match against Queens Park Rangers in March 2023.

Last month, the fan was given a three-year football banning order.

A statement from Watford FC said: “This outcome – which relates to the fixture at Loftus Road in March 2023 – follows a Metropolitan Police investigation that was carried out in conjunction with the We Campaign, which sees dedicated club staff working with the hate crime unit at Herts Police.

“It reaffirms our clear message about there being no place for discriminatory language and behaviour at our matches, and that reporting these incidents can lead to strong action being taken.”

Dave Messenger, Watford FC’s equality, diversity and inclusion lead, said: “The language used during this incident was especially unpleasant and has no place in society, and we’re grateful to the supporters who raised this particular complaint.”
