Berkhamsted Lawn Tennis & Squash Rackets Club (BLTSRC) have appointed a new chair of tennis, who is “excited” at the challenge of helping the already thriving club continue to improve.
Adam Suggett, who has taken over from Michael Beavis, told Berkhamstednews that the club is a “hidden gem”.
Based on Lower Kings Road, BLTSRC’s multiple teams compete at various levels, including a national league team who compete against well-known tennis clubs such as Roehampton and Queens.
The club prides itself on being inclusive and Adam hopes to attract a wide range of new members.
Speaking to Berkhamstednews, Adam said: “It’s a fantastic feeling to be made chair.
“I’ve played tennis most of my life and this is a brilliant club. It’s a real hidden gem and I think many people in the local community don’t realise how great it is, and it’s on their doorstep. I’m really excited as I think we’ve got scope to grow further.
“I have a tough act to follow as Michael, the previous chair, achieved so much in his three years in charge.
“He resurfaced several of our main courts, which is no mean feat when you consider how many teams and sessions we offer, and he has attracted elite coaches to Berkhamsted.
“He is a great person and also helped me so much as I settle into my new role.
“My goal is to appeal to a wider range of people. To achieve that, we will be offering new varied sessions which, for example, will be suited for younger people and ladies.”
Other changes at the club include Pete Walker elected as chair of squash, succeeding John Shaw. John continues to be club chair, with Phil Trimmer as treasurer and Matt Markwort as social chair.
