TOP TEAM: Eventful few months for recruiting bowls team

Published on: 20th February 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

The 109-year-old Rickmansworth Bowls Club (RBC) is recruiting for new players for it’s next season, following an exciting 2021 which included a tournament-winning first.

The club, founded in 1903, fielded an excellent team in last year’s Watford Vets Fours tournament, organised by the Watford & District Bowls Association (WDBA), eventually winning the event.

The senior side of Sid Yexley, Bill Syrett, Ian Jacklin and Nick Bessant managed to earn the prestigious Ray Barber shield for the first time in the RBC’s history, pipping opponents Abbotts Langley to the post in the tournament’s final, hosted by Hemel Hempstead Bowls Club.

The club is now looking for new recruits to their side as it prepares to carry on the success of the previous year into the upcoming season, which begins this May.

Located at Basing Gardens, Northway, it’s a mixed club open to all types of people, and affiliated to the WDBA, Hertfordshire Bowls Association and English Bowls Associations.

The club play mixed matches on Saturday afternoons at 2:30pm, ladies’ games at 2:30pm on Thursdays and men’s Veteran League matches start at 2:15pm on Tuesday afternoons.

For those interested, please contact the club’s secretary Nick Bessant by calling 07731 897481 or by emailing him at nick.bessant@talktalk.net. Open sessions take place on Saturday, May 25 from 12-6pm and Thursday, May 27 from 6-8pm.
