You might already know this, but the interior of the town’s Royal Masonic School for Girls was immortalised forever in the Hollywood adventure film series Indiana Jones.
The school’s rooms became the base for Harrison Ford’s famous archaeologist in both the first and third films in the long-running saga.
But Rickmansworth has featured in other media as well…
The school itself has made numerous film and TV appearances ranging from 80s superhero movie Supergirl, period flick Me and Orson Welles and kids thriller The Demon Headmaster.
Springwell’s lock, lake and quarry all featured in Jon Pertwee-era Doctor Who, Bridget Jones landed in one of Stockers Farm’s pig pens following a parachute jump in her second film, and Black Beauty galloped her way through the town in her 1972 TV series.
Perhaps most famously, in Douglas Adams beloved sci-fi book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a woman sitting outside a café in Rickmansworth suddenly realises the solution to world peace. However, this unfortunately takes place just five minutes before the entire Earth is destroyed by alien demolition experts.
Do you have any photographic memories of Rickmansworth’s varied appearances in film, TV or even other media throughout the years? If so, send them to us at newsdesk@mynewsmag.co.uk and they could feature in a future magazine!
