TOP GRADES: Smiles all round as Rickmansworth school students get GCSE results

Students at Rickmansworth School have been celebrating today, after an outstanding GCSE results day.

Following a fantastic set of A-Level results last week, almost 45 per cent of this year’s Year 11s managed to get grades in the region of 7, 8 and 9 (previously A and A*). 90 per cent of students also managed to get a grade 4 or higher in English and Maths, with 80 per cent getting a grade 5 or higher in the same subjects.

It’s a remarkable achievement for the youngsters, who saw their education disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. They have also been the first Years 11s to sit formal exams in three years due to these interruptions.

One student said of her exams: “They’ve been tough but in a good way. We’ve definitely had to have a lot of resilience, but I’m very proud of myself and how I did.”

Another pupil commented: “The COVID-19 pandemic definitely made the earlier year of GCSEs quite hard, but I feel like people really pulled through, they really handled themselves well.”

Matt Fletcher, Headteacher at Rickmansworth School, said: “After a difficult few years during the pandemic, it was lovely to see the smiles on our students’ faces as they opened their results this morning. The resilience they have shown in recent times is remarkable. They are all exceptional, inspiring and talented young people and we couldn’t be prouder of them.”
