TOP MARKS: Amersham headteacher labels students “awesome” on GCSE results day

Pupils at a school in Amersham are celebrating after achieving their GCSE results this morning (August 25).

Year 11 students at Amersham School were delighted with their results, and have been labelled “awesome” by headteacher Sharon Jarrett.

Mrs Jarrett said: “We are proud of each and every student where our ethos of ‘Live, Learn and Succeed Together’ is clearly illustrated in this fantastic set of results.  Due to the global pandemic, this cohort were the first students to sit GCSE exams for three years, yet it is very evident our students responded brilliantly with resilience and dedication.

“Many students have made exceptional progress and achieved outstanding personal results.  The vast majority of high-performing students are returning to Amersham School for their A Level studies.  All were fully supported by our outstanding teaching staff and we are looking forward to welcoming our students back to our flourishing Sixth Form for the next stages in their academic journeys. We wish all our students every future success and happiness.”

This follows on from delight at A Level results last week, with many students being accepted into first-class universities and apprenticeships across the country.

A spokesperson for the school said: “We are enormously proud of this cohort, who were the first to sit A Level exams since the pandemic, had their GCSE examinations cancelled and have experienced COVID-19 related challenges and disruption across the last three years. Their academic journey has been subject to previous results calculated by an algorithm, continued uncertainty, hybrid learning and external factors beyond any of our control.  Our students responded with resilience and dedication and adapted brilliantly to the constantly changing demands of the pandemic.”
