A Rickmansworth animal rescue charity has been awarded £5,000 after being nominated by members of the public.

Pumpkins Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre, based at Stockers Farm, has received a monetary gift as part of Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards.

More than 100,000 people around the country nominated the animal welfare causes they felt were most deserving of one of the 10 available grants.

Pumpkins, a charity working to save and rehabilitate wildlife in need across the UK, was among the chosen causes. It is currently working to address the needs of wildlife around the HS2 rail development.

A spokesperson for the centre said: “Thanks to each and every one of you who nominated us; this is all because of you! We’re absolutely blown away. Thank you to Benefact Group for this generous donation; it will truly make a huge difference.”

Mark Hews, group chief executive of Benefact Group, said: “We’re looking forward to seeing how this financial boost will help animal welfare.”
