Patrols have been increased and advice is being offered to drivers following a series of thefts from vans in Bushey.
Since Saturday, January 15, there have been seven reports of vehicles being broken into in the area, with tools being stolen on the majority of occasions.
Sergeant Iain Brunt, from the Bushey and Radlett Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “We know that the livelihoods of tradespeople can be seriously affected by tool thefts and we want to do everything we can to prevent these crimes from happening. We’ve stepped up patrols in the area and are also urging people to review their own security.
“If you do keep tools in your van, please remove them when leaving it unattended, especially overnight. If this simply isn’t possible, consider installing a high-quality tool safe and fit additional locks to your van. Never leave anything on display, always ensure your vehicle is fully locked and try and park in a way that restricts access to rear or sliding side doors if possible. It’s also a good idea to clearly engrave or mark your tools, as this makes them less desirable and harder for criminals to sell on.
“If you witness any suspicious activity around vehicles, please dial 999 straight away. We’d rather attend to find everything is in order, than miss an opportunity to catch a potential offender.”
