FLYING HIGH: Hunton Bridge receive highest possible honour for dedication to Air Force

Published on: 30th January 2022   |   By: Holly Bullen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Two Hunton Bridge residents have been heralded with the highest honour possible from the Royal Air Forces Association.

Trevor and Pat Hayes, who are both members of the Abbots and Kings Langley Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA), were jointly awarded the National Presidential Certificate recently after the presentation was delayed from 2020.

Both have played instrumental roles in the branch before their retirement in March 2021, with Trevor serving as treasurer for 22 years as well as chairman for the last six years.

Pat has also been pivotal serving as honorary welfare officer for more than 15 years and social secretary for nine years.

Upon receiving the award, Trevor wanted to thank everyone who had supported him.

He said: “I was both honoured and delighted to have been nominated for and to receive this award. Being part of the branch has been a privilege and I have made many likeminded friends both in the village and throughout the wider RAF family.

“I would like to thank the branch members, Abbots Langley Parish Council and all the local businesses and members of the public who have given their support which has helped the branch to flourish and be so successful over the years. I have enjoyed every minute of my time with the Association.”

Pat added that she felt “very humbled” by the award and spoke about the rewarding nature of her role in the association.

She said: “This award came as a total surprise. As Branch Welfare Officer, it has been very rewarding to be able to help veterans and their dependents in their times of need and I have endeavoured to arrange enjoyable entertainment for our members at the monthly social evenings in an effort to promote camaraderie and combat loneliness.

“I would like to thank the committee and all members who have given their full support to us and to the branch over the years. We could not have achieved this without them.”
