A community litter picking group collected 70 bags of litter to mark the 70th anniversary of a national environmental charity.

All Together Community Litter Pickers meet on the fourth Saturday of every month in Chalfont St Giles to collect rubbish from the village’s streets.

The litter pickers set the goal of collecting 70 bags of rubbish as part of the Great British Spring Clean, the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign organised by charity Keep Britain Tidy. The event also celebrated the charity’s 70th anniversary.

Thanks to the organisation of volunteer Kate La Motte, residents will notice the village looking tidier than usual.

Resident Jane Chamberlain said: “It was a very worthwhile and enjoyable morning. When many people moan about litter, it’s so wonderful to see so many people making a difference.”

St Giles Gems WI posted on social media: “A fantastic but shocking result. Thank you to all the volunteers.”
