American singer-songwriter Tom Lehrer once said: “Life is like a piano; what you get out of it depends on how you play it.”
If this is the case, 12-year-old Pinner resident Arwin can look forward to a lifetime of success.
After winning a gold medal and trophy in the Baroque/Classic 14 and under section of the Watford Festival in February, he has now gone on to prove his talent goes beyond the keyboard.
On Thursday, March 13, Arwin won second place at the Watford Festival Speech & Drama School Year 7-9 Shakespeare Class, with the famous dagger monologue from Macbeth.
As this was the very first time he has participated, winning was “a real treat”. Afterwards, Arwin was commended by a casting agent who said he was “a natural actor”.
His talent certainly knows no bounds, as he also won second place at the North London Festival Musical Theatre Class with the Little Shop of Horrors song Grow for Me, competing against 14 other children.
Earlier this year, his school production of Little Shop of Horrors at Watford Grammar School for Boys was praised by the National School Theatre Awards as “an ovation-worthy performance”.
The report states: “From the moment I entered the auditorium, the show didn’t disappoint. Each performer brought a unique flair, aided by their well-thought-out costumes that helped them stay uniformed. Their stunning voices – individually and as a group – added elegance and class.”
Those excited to see what Arwin is up to next won’t have to wait long, as he will be competing in the North London Festival from Tuesday, May 6, to Friday, May 9, which is one of the most prominent music and drama competitions in the UK.
Encouraged by his tutor, Arwin has also entered the Orbetello International Online Piano Competition.
