Visitors to the UK’s first-ever romance book festival, held in Bushey this summer, said they have finally “found their tribe”.
MeetCute Book Festival is the brainchild of Bushey resident Andi Forsythe, also known by her pen name Lauren Forsythe.
Andi, the author of The Fixer Upper and Dealbreakers, told Bushey News she was “really pleased” with the festival. More than 240 people booked free tickets to attend the festival, which took place at Bushey Rose Garden on Saturday, June 22.
She said: “It was a big turnout and people really engaged with the panels. Everyone was pleased to be part of the celebration of the romance genre.
“We had people from as far as Scotland, which goes to show how much people were crying out for something like this.”
Author Lizzy Dent hosted six panels, which showcased authors speaking on topics ranging from rainbow romance to writing rom-coms.
There were also workshops for aspiring writers, the opportunity to buy the panellists’ books and get them signed, stalls selling bookish treats, and cocktails with book-themed names.
Also in attendance was Kirsty Greenwood, author of The Love of My Afterlife, who said: “What a gorgeously joyful and much-needed festival MeetCute was! Not just for writers of romance fiction but for readers too.”
