SWITCH UP: Hospice shop in Kings Langley welcomes a new manager

The Hospice of St Francis shop in Kings Langley has welcomed a new manager, who is looking forward to getting stuck in and helping the local community.

Sharon Hurford, who is taking over the manager position, knows first-hand how important hospices can be for families, after her sister-in-law sadly had to spend her final two weeks in her local hospice.

She said: “I know from personal experience just how important hospices are. The vital services they provide are essential not only for the patient but also for the patient’s family, friends and loved ones.

“I decided that I had to give something back, so I changed my career ten years ago and entered the charity retail sector.

“Due to my personal experiences I have a passion and desire to promote the charity and make a difference.”

Sharon added that there are some challenges of running the charity shop in the current pandemic.

She said: “The biggest change without doubt has been the donation quarantine. We have to quarantine our donations for a minimum of 48 hours before they can go onto the shop floor.

“Storage space is very limited and once the daily café is full we are unable to take any more donations from customers that day.”
