A physiotherapist turned candy floss artist from Hemel Hempstead has gone viral on social media after just six months of working on her craft.
Bernadette Fong never imaged that after moving from Malaysia to the UK and completing her physiotherapy training, she would end up competing in a national candy floss contest.
Speaking to HEMELnews, Bernadette said: “I bought the machine and it started out as a hobby, but then the business picked up, and a TikTok of my work went viral!”
The candy floss extraordinaire finished university in November and went on to work in physiotherapy.
Now, she has taken a huge change of pace after launching her business, Cloud Nine, and using candy floss to craft magnificent creations of ducks, flowers and even unicorns.
Bernadette worked with the internationally renowned footwear brand KOI Footwear and Teletubbies for a collaborative event, where she made candy floss sculptures of the beloved children’s characters.
At the end of August, she will be taking part in the final of the NMTF’s Young Traders Market 2024 campaign competition, competing against traders from across the country.
She continued: “I didn’t expect this to happen and for this to grow so fast, especially the TikTok videos! It’s a big contrast to what I did before where I worked in a hospital, and everyone was grumpy.
“Now I’m dealing with a lot of love and people are so excited. I really enjoy my job now. Although I still love the physio job, now it is much less stressful!”
