BOOK BOTHERS: Confusion continues over closure and redevelopment of Northwood libraries

Published on: 4th August 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Many Northwood residents have been left confused over the status of the area’s two local libraries.

Northwood Library, located on Oaklands Gate, has been closed since October 2023 following concerns over potential structural issues within the building.

In February of this year, the council announced that the library would not reopen, as the problems were more severe than previously thought.

For the past five months, Hillingdon Council has been looking for a new temporary location to house the library’s stock, which is currently in storage.

Meanwhile, plans have also been revealed for the redevelopment of Northwood Hills Library, but these seem to have been put on hold until the issues at Northwood Library are resolved.

The council has confirmed that it is still looking for a temporary site to house Northwood Library, and in the meantime a mobile library will act as an interim solution for anyone who isn’t able to travel to other nearby branches.

The council’s mobile library will make weekly visits to Dene Road in Northwood from 11am to 11.45am every Thursday.

Hillingdon Council has been contacted for comment.
