An author from Berkhamsted is set to release her eighth book next month.
Clare Swatman will release The Lost Letters of Evil and Fight on February 15 although copies can be pre-ordered.
The former journalist used to work for a series of women’s magazines including Best, Bella, Woman, Woman’s Own, Real People and Take a Break.
Then when her youngest son was two years old she set about writing her first novel between childcare and her journalism work.
Before You Go was her debut novel and it was published in the UK in February 2017, and around the world throughout the following year.
The Mother’s Secret, her second novel, was published a year later with others to follow including Before We Grow Old, which came out in 2022 and was an instant Amazon bestseller, and has sold more than 70,000 copies to date.
Clare told Berko News about her journey. She said: “I have always wanted to be an author and I think having been a journalist I am used to thinking of story ideas.
“I enjoy writing books and while the first one took a while to complete it did really well and ended up selling around the world and is in 22 languages.
“The next book will be my eighth and they are now all with the same publisher. This is the first in a series of five so there will also be more to come.”
Clare is running a four-week online course on Wednesdays from January 17 to February 7 from 7pm to 9pm.
It will explore everything you need to know to get started with writing long-form fiction, from finding ideas, to plotting, writing characters, dialogue, setting and description
