Five men were arrested on suspicion of going equipped on Saturday, June 7, thanks to information from members of the public and CCTV operators in St Albans.
Police were informed of several people acting suspiciously around the city’s mobile phone shops in St Peter’s Street at around 3.20pm.
Officers attended, identified two people of interest and carried out an arrest in Waddington Road, during which they were pushed. A 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, both from London, were arrested on suspicion of going equipped and assaulting police.
A short time later, three men aged 24, 34 and 21, also from London, were arrested in a vehicle in South Mimms. The 34-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of drugs. A Renault Clio has been seized as part of the investigation.
The five have also been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to rob Vodafone in South Street, Bishop’s Stortford, on May 26 this year.
They have been released on conditional police bail pending further enquiries.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: “Thanks to members of the public and CCTV operators for calling us about suspicious behaviour.”
