A Hemel Hempstead man who had over a hundred indecent images of children on his computers was today (Friday, August 12) given a suspended jail sentence.
Daniel Kenchington’s home was raided in by officers from the child on-line safety team in February last year.
Prosecutor Vanessa Mistry told St Albans crown court that Kenchington, aged 29, initially denied that he had accessed child abuse images, but later said there might be something on the laptop in his bedroom.
Three computers were seized and examined. 115 illegal stills and movies were found. 12 stills and 19 movies were at Category A, the most serious level. There were 22 stills and 23 movies at Category B and 39 stills and 3 movies at Category C.
The children were aged between 4 and 16 and the images had been downloaded between March 23, 2020 and December 14, 2020.
Kenchington appeared for sentence having pleaded guilty to three charges of making (downloading) indecent images of children.
Defending, Reena Hill said he was of previous good character. She said the offending had stopped by the time the police executed the warrant.
Judge Richard Foster told him: “These children are abused for the purpose of making these films. You create a market for them.”
Kenchington nodded when the judge said: “You know it is wrong and you must be ashamed of yourself. Real people have suffered real abuse to satisfy the perverted sexual motives of others.”
He passed a 6 month jail sentence suspended for 18 months. Kenchington must complete 30 rehabilitation days, carry out 100 hours’ unpaid work and pay £360. Also, he must register as a sex offender and abide by the terms of a sexual harm prevention order for 7 years.
