A couple who have lived in Croxley for more than 50 years will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary this month.
John and Margaret Wyse, who are aged 89 and 90 respectively, have been in the village “ever since England won the World Cup”. They will celebrate 60 years of marriage on March 7.
Margaret said: “I think we know the area quite well by now!”
The couple described just how much the village has changed since they moved to Kenilworth Drive, most notably how the surrounding green spaces have been tarmacked to make way for housing.
John said: “It’s so busy; our road is like a racetrack! We’re still enjoying ourselves though. We wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
John and Margaret have two children, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Reflecting on their memories of their wedding in 1964, the couple remember receiving a telegram from the Mayor and Mayoress of Watford. They also recalled winning a successful game of whist on the day before the wedding, in which they won £15.
John added: “That very nearly paid for the honeymoon alone!”
