SUPER SAVIOUR: Watford ‘hero’ chases knifeman through town centre

A Watford resident has been labelled a “hero” after chasing an armed man to ensure the safety of locals.

On Saturday, March 23, a door supervisor, who wishes to remain anonymous, was out for brunch near Market Street. A man entered the venue and raised a commotion. The door supervisor wasted no time in trying to escort the man out, before realising that the man was in possession of a knife.

The door supervisor chased the assailant while telling everyone to get inside.

Speaking to Watford News, he said: “Honestly, I just wanted the public to be safe and the people in the venue safe. That’s the way I’m inclined. It’s my job to protect the public and make sure no one gets hurt.

“I didn’t think. It all happened in an instant.”

A spokesperson for Herts Police said: “Police were called at around 4.44pm on Saturday (March 23) to report a man was being chased by another man with a knife. It was then later reported that a group of males were spotted with weapons near Wellstone’s, Watford.

“Despite local officers and officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Armed Policing Unit, attending the area, the victim or offender(s) could not be located. Officers who were already in the town centre then stayed in the area as they continued reassurance patrols.”
