Old Albanians Rugby Club are reflecting on their successes as they celebrate their 100th year.
Speaking to STALBANSnews, Scott Bachmann, chairman of the St Albans-based club, said: “Over the past 100 years, our club has undergone tremendous transformation, particularly in the realm of community rugby in recent years.
“One of our proudest achievements is the remarkable success of our ladies’ section, known as The Saints. Additionally, our junior Saint program has flourished, serving as a vital pathway to our senior Saints section and even leading talented players to prestigious clubs like Saracens.
“It is remarkable that some of our players have earned international caps—an outstanding feat!”
Five of the club’s U16 players have been selected for the Saracens Academy, with several other players representing Wales and Scotland.
Both the club’s 1st and 2nd junior teams have made it to their respective league finals, which will be played at Twickenham on May 12. The men’s first team competes in the National 2 (East) League and has had a successful 2023/24 season thus far, currently sitting in the middle of the table.
Scott added: “We take a solid view that we are a community club, and we take pride in welcoming all newcomers warmly.”
Old Albanians will celebrate their centenary with a plethora of activities, including a Centenary Summer Ball on June 29.
