Tributes have been paid to the creator of the Spelling Made Easy programme who died in Chorleywood earlier this month.
Violet Brand MBE died peacefully at the Nursing Home where she had been resident for a number of years on April 4. She was recently joined by her husband Geoffrey. The couple had lived in Rickmansworth.
Her son Michael paid tribute to his mother on behalf of the family.
He said: “For each member of the family Violet was a special wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, who was loved and respected enormously by all of us. As well as her enriched family life Violet achieved an enormous amount as a pioneer in teaching literacy through phonic. We are all very proud that she was awarded the MBE for services to Adult Literacy and are grateful for everything she gave us.”
The funeral will be private in accordance with current regulations. When circumstances allow there be a Memorial service for Violet.
