7th St Albans Brownies celebrated their 100th birthday in January, with a talent show celebrating the incredible talents of the troupe.
The group was formed in St Albans in January 1923, one of the earliest Brownie groups to form.
In January, the girls shared their talents such as gymnastics, guitar playing, drawing, magic tricks, contortionism, karate, Irish dancing and a poetry recital. Two of the girls even modelled old Brownie uniforms for the group, leaders and county commissioner Sandra Sayce who was in attendance.
Sarah Ashworth, unit lead spoke to St Albans News and said: “We are so pleased to be celebrating 7th St Albans Brownies centenary. It’s amazing to think that brownies have been coming together in this group to try new things, learn new skills and have fun for the last 100 years!
The girls also brought baked goods, bracelets and bookmarks, which they sold at the show and raised £119 for National Animal Welfare Trust and WWF.
Sarah continued: “I’ve been a leader here since 2020, and we have a brilliant team of volunteers on the leadership team who are really dedicated to making sure the girls have adventures with brownies and build their confidence. We have such a talented group of brownies and seeing them perform tonight was a great way to celebrate what brownies is all about.”
