A Rickmansworth boxer has made his long-awaited professional debut and won it in style, leaving him “over the moon”.
Brandon Webb, aged 23, has had difficulty in getting his first bout arranged due to the problems created by the coronavirus pandemic, but finally faced his first opponent, Lee Devine, at an event at the famous York Hall venue in Bethnal Green. He won the match 39-37.
Speaking to RICKYnews about how he felt about the game, Brandon said: “I feel good, and glad that it finally happened. I’m now over the moon.” He said the actual fight wasn’t too much of a challenge but preparing for it was. “I think it was more overcoming my nerves.”
Brandon also had nothing but praise for his trainer, Andy Gill, his gym, Evolve Gym in Amersham, and his gym-mates and fellow boxers Patrick Gil and Juliette Horwood, who also won their matches at the same event.
He only started to get involved in the sport five years ago when he was 18, but he’s come a long way since then, taking part in twenty fights before he turned professional in November 2020.
Looking to the future, Brandon has his next bout set for June 11, also at York Hall, later on this year, and he feels confident, saying: “I know what to expect now.”
As for the future beyond that, he says he’s not thinking about that right now, preferring to focus on whatever fights he’s got ahead of him.
“I’m not really looking past anything right now, but I’m looking to see how far I can go with it.”
