Hemel Hempstead could benefit from new street hubs that would provide free Wi-Fi, phone charging and emergency calls.
Plans have been submitted by BT proposing to build hubs at six locations: next to Costa Coffee on Maylands Avenue, next to B&M on Marlowes, opposite Mayfair Fitted Furniture on Marlowes, outside Carphone Warehouse on Marlowes, outside the BP petrol station on Breakspear Way, and outside Physique Gym on Marlowes.
This follows similar hubs in other locations across the UK including Birmingham and Sheffield.
A BT spokesperson said: “We are currently exploring where street hubs could be introduced in Hemel Hempstead and have submitted applications for six potential sites where they could be effectively introduced.
“We believe visitors, residents and businesses in the area would benefit from the improved functionality offered by street hubs including free ultra-fast W-iFi, rapid device charging and the ability to be fitted with mobile signal boosting 4G and 5G cells.”
Dacorum Borough Council has been contacted for comment.
